We were busting at the seams at the old office, but we didn’t want to move to an office park with a retention pond with a fountain pushing up green died brown water -- if we did, we had lots of options. We wanted something more us. I saw this ugly ass building pop up on the net, rucked over to check it out, and it was as ugly as I’d imagined. My buddy Jeff whose firm (Whiting Turner) would do the build-out, laughed at me and said “this place?”. But it had soul, and character, it was three blocks from the beach and tucked away in all the best ways, and paint isn’t that expensive. Neither is demo - because there were a lot of walls that had to come down inside. At first I was adamant about a rooftop, but was talked into a party deck instead -- something about easier (less expensive) and “capital improvements” being the way to go. So we bought the building and have been in the process of moving for the last year. A bunch of folks moved into the top story a year ago, then we crammed Scars (and me) in to that same top story for the last eternity where emily was blessed to work 15 yards from me with but one door between us. Alas! We have survived, and are moving in fully next week. Here are some of the build-out pics. Once you see it for yourself and it’s our kind of perfect, you can know that it wasn’t always like that, that we had to put even more heart and soul into the space to really make it ours. We look forward to inviting you all to join us at the barrage of local events we’ll be hosting soon at GORUCK HQ 390 16th Ave. S, Jax Beach, FL, USA.
Adios, walls. (And blinds). Let there be light.
No second story on the deck, but still pretty sweet. And fully bent steel so there’s no beam in the driveway.
Gut it.
There’s em - she’s so happy in this picture, just thinking about when I can move downstairs. :)
The crew of guys who are building this are working their asses off. It’s Florida summer weather and they don’t complain, they just make a lot of awesome noise and get it done. I won’t miss the construction itself, but I will miss having these construction workers around.
Luke and Aiden from Whiting Turner have managed the build out on the ground - could not have asked for two better or more competent leaders.
Safety third - but when finished we’ll have a rail up and everything. More pics next week or so!
Can't wait to be on different levels and sides of the building again haha
It’s looking so good!!
